The Festival of the Sound is dedicated to providing innovative, creative, thematic programming. This includes our off-the-main-stage educational projects.
During the school year, we run an exciting in-school program called Music Scores. And during the summer we offer Music from the Inside Out. This year, the Festival is providing music education and enrichment programming for local school children during the school year, and for both children and adults during our summer season. The love of music often begins in childhood and the Festival is committed to bringing world class professional classical musicians into our local schools. We also provide opportunities for those children to attend professional concerts at the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts both during the school year and our summer season.

The children themselves give the best testimonials to the success of the Festival of the Sound’s Music Scores project. In the Festival’s innovative education program, Music Scores, children in Grades 4 to 6 in thirteen area schools enjoy six concert experiences, some of which have included the True North Brass, a woodwind quintet, a jazz ensemble, the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, The Elmer Iseler Singers, and Strings Across the Sky. Most recently we were joined by the Trillium Brass Quintete. Prior to each of these concerts, the musicians visit every school, getting to know the students in an informal setting, demonstrating their instruments and preparing them for the concert. Then all 700 children come to the Stockey Centre by bus or on foot to listen to the musicians, now their friends, in a formal concert setting. No opening night audience can match the excitement that precedes each of these concerts. Music Scores is offered without charge to the children, their families or the schools.
